Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has presented a ₦897.8 billion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year to the Katsina State House of Assembly, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to deepening reforms and accelerating development across the state.
Tagged “Building Your Future III,” the 2026 Appropriation Bill — Radda’s third since assuming office — marks a 29.7% increase over the 2025 budget.
Under the proposal, ₦167.7 billion (18.7%) is allocated for recurrent expenditure, while ₦730.1 billion (81.3%) is devoted to capital projects — underscoring the administration’s continued focus on infrastructure and social development.
Presenting the budget before lawmakers, Governor Radda said the proposal was developed through a participatory process involving citizens from all 361 communities and 316 wards, ensuring that local priorities shape state investment.
He noted that the 2026 fiscal plan aims to consolidate progress in key sectors such as security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and water supply.
A sectoral breakdown shows that the economic sector received the largest allocation of ₦371.8 billion (41.4%), followed by the social sector with ₦341.4 billion (38%), while the administrative and law and justice sectors were allocated ₦177.2 billion and ₦7.3 billion, respectively.
Governor Radda described the budget as a “disciplined and people-centered plan” focused on strengthening public institutions, empowering communities, and improving service delivery. He assured that prudence, accountability, and transparency would guide its implementation.
In his remarks, Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura, commended the governor for what he called a “detailed, visionary, and people-oriented budget” that demonstrates fiscal responsibility and commitment to citizens’ welfare.
He praised the administration’s strides in peacebuilding, education, healthcare expansion, youth and women empowerment, and rural infrastructure development, which he said were driving economic growth and social stability.
The Speaker pledged that the Assembly would give the 2026 Appropriation Bill “serious and patriotic attention,” ensuring it aligns with the “Building Your Future” development agenda. He further reaffirmed the legislature’s readiness to collaborate with the Executive for the timely passage and effective execution of the budget, describing it as a bold step toward consolidating Governor Radda’s transformation vision for Katsina State.
